National CASA spokesperson Jimmy Wayne has stories to tell: stories of moving in and out of foster homes, of living on the streets after being abandoned by his mother and of the acts of kindness that made him the man he is today.
Some of these stories have found their way into songs on his three albums, two of which made it into the Billboard Country Top 10. One song in particular, “Paper Angels,” came from his memories of depending on the kindness of strangers for his only Christmas gifts.
On Saturday night, March 20, National CASA honored the winners of the 2011 Awards of Excellence. (You can learn more about each of our honorees here, and you can also nominate someone for the 2012 Awards of Excellence.) Those who were not in attendance were able to share the experience by following the stream of messages on Twitter. Before the banquet began, one attendee tweeted about the remarkable guests sharing a table with her:
If you weren’t able to attend the 30th National CASA Conference in Chicago, attendees have been providing snapshots of their experiences through Twitter. By using the hashtag #CASAconf11, Twitter users have created a streaming conversation, connected with other attendees, and shared their personal highlights. We are happy to share some tweets from the first two days of the conference.
