Paper Angels

Paper AngelsNational CASA spokesperson Jimmy Wayne has stories to tell: stories of moving in and out of foster homes, of living on the streets after being abandoned by his mother and of the acts of kindness that made him the man he is today.

Some of these stories have found their way into songs on his three albums, two of which made it into the Billboard Country Top 10. One song in particular, “Paper Angels,” came from his memories of depending on the kindness of strangers for his only Christmas gifts.

2011 National CASA Conference – Awards Banquet

On Saturday night, March 20, National CASA honored the winners of the 2011 Awards of Excellence.  (You can learn more about each of our honorees here, and you can also nominate someone for the 2012 Awards of Excellence.) Those who were not in attendance were able to share the experience by following the stream of messages on Twitter. Before the banquet began, one attendee tweeted about the remarkable guests sharing a table with her:

@beautyoftheweek – I have great advocates at my table. @JimmyWayne, @judgeghatchett, & @hamiltonanthony. This is a great @NationalCASA conference.

Final Results from Members Project Contest Announced

American Express has released the final results from the Members Project voting contest. National CASA placed second in our category to the microlending organization Kiva. We congratulate Kiva for their hard work and wish them continued success in pursuing their important mission.

While we are disappointed at the final outcome, we are proud of the way that the CASA community mobilized around this effort. Carrie Alling from TakePart said this about our participation in the contest: “Throughout the vote cycle, we saw National CASA and its supporters generate tremendous momentum. We are so proud to be associated with an organization that is committed to giving abused and neglected children a voice in the courtroom and care throughout their lives.”
